Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) August 1, 2008
Lenovo in Australia has been selected for inclusion in the populare series of magazines published by Bean Media Group in Sydney. The respected publications are the series of ‘Australia’s Best’ and Lenovo were selected in ‘Australia’s Best Manufacturing’ – released late July 2008.
Lenovo is an innovative, international technology company that formed as a result of the acquisition by the Lenovo Group of the IBM Personal Computing Division in May 2005. The corporation is now the leading PC vendor in Asia-Pacific and among the largest in the world with more than 25,000 employees and a sales presence in 160 countries with principal operations in the United States, China, Japan, and Singapore. Lenovo has a strong tradition of quality with the ThinkPad and ThinkCentre notebook and desktop computer families. The dynamic company also has a bright future ahead with the IdeaPad and IdeaCentre lines specifically designed for digital enthusiasts and home computer buyers.
Lenovo is also committed to being a responsible and active corporate citizen, consistently working to improve its business while contributing to the development of society and caring for the environment. Lenovo believes that business is an integral part of society and it is dedicated to working together with its employees and local communities to improve the quality of life at work and at home. Greenpeace ranked Lenovo the #1 most environmentally friendly technology company in March 2007, taking into consideration the environment in all Lenovo’s business activities from its operations through to the design of its products and use of its technology.
Lenovo’s stated strategy is “to grow faster and more profitably than the industry by delivering the best engineered PCs and unequalled ownership experience”. To do that, Lenovo has identified four immediate priority focus areas in its business, and supply chain is top of the list. An efficient supply chain drives any company’s cost structure and the competitiveness of its overall business, which ultimately benefits customers.
Lenovo has a global supply base that relies on what they call “world-sourcing”. Their suppliers work in partnership with Lenovo as they source components from various locations worldwide. Lenovo Australia’s notebook computer components, for example, are sourced globally and delivered to their notebook plants in Shenzhen and Shanghai. Lenovo’s best-engineered notebook PCs are then assembled and air-shipped directly to their customers and Business Partners/Resellers in 160 countries worldwide, including Australia.
Once the PCs arrive on Australian shores, they are dependent on the likes of DHL freight forwarding to deliver the products safely and efficiently to the customer. Lenovo regard their suppliers as an extension of themselves, so it’s critical that they hold the same values and commitment to customer service that they do at Lenovo.
The company’s best-engineered desktop PCs are built in regional manufacturing plants. Components for their PCs are again sourced globally and bulk-shipped – typically in large ocean containers – to their regional manufacturing plants for assembly, before being delivered to their Australian customers and Business Partners/Resellers via air or ocean transportation.
Lenovo’s options and peripherals – which include everything from monitors and memory sticks to computer carrying cases – are also sourced globally. Delivery transportation for options and peripherals is dependent on weight and value. Low-weight, high-value options and peripherals are air-shipped directly to customers and Business Partners/Resellers. High weight, low-value options and peripherals are shipped directly to customers and Business Partners/Resellers via ground or ocean transportation. In Australia, Lenovo relies on DHL and Maersk for these deliveries.
Aspects such as serviceability, cost and automation of processes are all taken into account when considering a new supplier. Suppliers also have to subscribe to the company’s core values, which are outlined below. To build a relationship with an existing supplier – like IMI DHL or Grays Online in Australia, who Lenovo have worked with for many years, flexibility and customer service is essential to a mutually successful partnership.
Grays Online is Australia’s leading auctioneering & asset management company. They specialise in the valuation, marketing & sale of businesses, inventory & equipment.] and DHL are proud to be a key supplier to Lenovo and were included with this advertisement in the hard-copy magazine of Australia’s Best]are both key suppliers to Lenovo and were included within the editorial feature in Australia’s Best Manufacturing.
